Weights have always been used to carry out weighing procedure. One type of weights can also be not used in all the weighing and testing or experimenting fields. Be it a test weight or standard weight or any. For testing, experimenting, lab classes we cannot always use test or standard weights. There the slotted weight came into existence.


A slotted weight comes with weight hangers which are also calibrated. Slotted masses are used in student lab classes, to teach physics and other sciences. The slots allow them to be placed on weight hangers, which are lightweight platforms attached to a thin rod with a hook at the top. Various masses are added to the hanger to create the desired amount of total mass then the combination is hung by the hooked end from a string or other support point. It is used to prove certain laws to find out the weight of an unknown mass object. The slotted mass/weight hanger combination allows a student to quickly create any desired amount of mass, to use in experiments involving force, acceleration, and mass. There are also many other experiments in other fields where a variable hanging mass comes in handy.


Slotted Weights are used in a variety of applications such as pressure, torque, and tensile strength testing. Cast Iron Class 6 Slotted Weights are typically used with a hanger that also has its weight calibrated so the hanger can be used as part of the overall weight under test. Several cast Iron Class 6 Slotted Weights may be used together to build up from a minimum weight to a maximum test load. The hanger weight selected should be able to accommodate the total load needed. Slotted weights can be made from cast iron, brass, and stainless steel. Each having its own quality classes.


Cast Iron Slotted Weights are adjusted to ANSI/ASTM E617 Class 6. Accordance to the Tolerance Chart within the Mass Standards Handbook the tolerance of each weight can be evolved. Cast Iron Slotted Weights are manufactured from a high quality iron that meets ANSI/ASTM E617 hardness requirements. Castings also meet ANSI/ASTM E617 surface roughness requirements and are free of cracks, pits and sharp edges. There are adjusting cavities in each weight above 2 kg / 5 lb. Weights below 2 kg / 5 lb are adjusted by removing material from the underside of the weight. Each weight has the nominal value cast into the topside of the weight. Weights are protected by a durable coat of paint – gold for metric and silver for avoirdupois – to protect the casting from rusting. Cast Iron Slotted Weights are typically used with a hanger that also has its weight calibrated so the hanger can be used as part of the overall weight under test. Weight hangers are available in a variety of lengths and weight capacities. Hangers are calibrated to a mass value, and also have a capacity of how much weight can be loaded onto them.


Disappearance of the original weighing procedure lead only the use these weights not only in the field of testing, experimenting, or proving certain Physics laws but also in making of a Science student.
